A weekend hockey goalie camp at the Hersheypark Arena was the perfect excuse for us to spend a couple of days roaming around one of the best theme parks in the US. Michael was attending the 'Goalie Academy' at the historic Hersheypark Arena, so Jill and I toured around Hershey Park for a couple of days.
We left on Friday morning and arrived at the park right as it opened up. This would be Mike's only opportunity to go to the park, so we wanted to maximize the day for him. We hit a bunch of rides, including the Super Dooper Looper, during the day and then went over to the Hersheypark Arena later in the afternoon to get Mike set and started at camp. The Arena is adjacent to the park, so it was a quick two minute walk from the main entrance of the park to the players entrance at the arena. After getting Mike set there, we went to Chocolate World before going back into the park and wandering around a bit more (and we found the one and only beer stand in the park!) We went back and picked up Mike and since he wanted to go back into the park, we did that. I was late by the time we left, around 10:00, and we were all pretty exhausted.
We made our way to the Super 8 Harrisburg Hershey NW, on Allentown Road a few miles from the park. In relation to all of the other area hotels, this was the most reasonable price wise for this trip ($120.60 per night, and that was the least expensive in the entire area!).
Bright and early Saturday morning we hiked back over to the arena and got Mike settled. We had some time to kill, so Jill and I went to the Panera Bread for breakfast before going back to the rink and helping Mike get dressed. Then, it was off to the park again! We were there and in just as it opened, so we rode the Super Dooper Looper three times, and then went on the Coal Cracker twice. We visited Zoo America so we could see the otters, played some games (I FINALLY won something for Jill at one of those carnival games!), and then we went back to the rink to have Mike get dressed. We tried going to Chocolate World at some point during the day, but it was horribly crowded! The line for the chocolate ride was queued and even then it stretched to the front door! We went back into the park and rode the Lightning Racer three times! Pretty awesome coaster. We toured the park a bit more, and back to the rink to get Mike. We went to dinner that night at the Red Robin near the hotel before going back to the hotel where Mike went swimming. We retired a bit earlier than the night before on Saturday.
On Sunday, the schedule was pretty much the same as the day before. Up early, to the rink, to Panera, back to the rink, and then Jill and I went back to the hotel to check out before going shopping for a bit. We hit the area near the hotel and the Shoppes at Hershey before going back to the rink again. We had lunch with Mike (in the employees dining area), took him back to camp, went back to the Shoppes at Hershey, went back to the rink, went to Chocolate World, then back to the rink to get Mike and we were outta there! Actually, we went to the Hershey Lodge for dinner at a place called 'The Bears Den'. It was entirely themed in Hershey Bears regalia - very cool! I had a chocolate beer there (tasted pretty much like a Guiness with a bit 'o chocolate in it). Afterwards, we made our way back to Binghamton.
