Elmira, New York

No baseball in Binghamton on a Monday night so we made the trek west to Elmira to 'historic' Dunn Field for our second PGCBL game in three days. Game was okay, crowd was a lot bigger than we expected. Went to Buffalo Wild Wings after the game for a late night dinner before heading home.

Elmira, NY- The Pioneers were poised to start a new winning streak on Monday night against the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs in front of 2,059 cheerful fans at Dunn Field. The DiamondDawgs offense and the bat of Chris Cruz (Cornell) would prove to be too much for the Pioneers en route to a 15-4 victory.

Carson Bryant (Chattanooga State C.C.) entered into the night looking to pick up his first victory of the season, but Mohawk Valley would have other intentions. Cruz would get the DiamondDawgs on the board first hitting a solo home run in the first inning for his third long ball of the season. Elmira would counter in the bottom of the inning tying the game as Kendall Konopka (Arizona Christian) would score as Spencer Brann (UC Davis) grounded into a double play.

With Elmira trailing 5-1 after a four run second inning by Mohawk Valley the Pioneers would respond in the home half of the inning. Aaron Nardone (Delaware State) would kick the inning off with a single into right field. Zac Bellinger (VCU) would follow with his 12th double of the season before Tyler McIntyre (Central Connecticut State) would send a ball deep to right field making it 5-4 for his third home run of the season and first at the friendly confines of Dunn Field.

Mohawk Valley would use a three run third inning to pull away for good as the pitching combo of Eddie Fitzpatrick (Brown) and Raymond Morton (Norfolk State) would get outs against Elmira hitting when they needed it most in picking up the win. Peter Jay (New Haven) pitched two scoreless innings of relief for Elmira including sitting down the DiamondDawgs in order in the seventh inning.

Elmira continues their push towards 50,000 fans walking through the gates of Dunn Field this season as the Pioneers will be home on Wednesday, July 11th to take on the Glens Falls Golden Eagles as part of “WENY” Wednesday in which fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs all night long at the ballpark. Elmira will also host Boy Scout Night on Friday, July 13th with all Boy Scout members in attendance staying overnight at Dunn Field.
