This was a rare weekend that Michael didn't have two to three travel games for us to go to, so Jill and I took advantage of this by treking to Canada for some native hockey.
Our day began by going to Oshawa, a suburb of Toronto, to watch Dave Nabi's daughter Sarah play. She plays for the Oshawa Lady Generals, and their game was against Belleville. Game was played at Campus Ice in Oshawa, and the home team prevailed with a 2-1 win. Sarah had an assist on the first Oshawa goal.
After the game, we headed back east on the 401 to Belleville for the Ontario Hockey League game between the Belleville Bulls and Guelph Storm. This was our first experience with Canadian Junior hockey. The caliber of play was no different than that of the AHL hockey we regularly watch at home. The Yardman Arena was a pretty cool place to watch the game as well. A majority of the seating was situated on both sides, with only a couple of rows on each end. The beer was cold (and definately Canadian!) and the poutine was yummy as well! All in all, a good first experience for us and OHL hockey.
We came back into the States as far as Watertown after the game, spending the night at the Hampton Inn in Watertown. On Sunday, we met up with the Squirt A Senators in Camillus for their game at the Shove Park Recreation Center. Mike played in this game, stopping 14 of the 17 shots he faced. He had no offensive support however, and the Sens lost the game 3-0.
